Use the Good China
What does your creative practice look like?
Are you creating consistently or do you find there are lulls in your creative rhythm? Are you brimming with inspiration or do you come to the page or canvas and stare longingly, waiting for an idea to come your way?
Are you quick to scribble or splash on paint just to eliminate the blank surface or are you frozen with fear because you don’t want to mess it up?
Yes. All of the above at one point or another.
I’ve found myself not using tools and materials because I don’t want to “waste” them on an idea that is not PERFECTION. I remember a few years ago I found a treasure in my stash - I probably spent $3 on it. I started to set it aside thinking “one day I’m going to use this”.
And then it hit me… I remember saying the exact same thing about this object when my oldest son was running around the living room with my baby son sleeping nearby. They were 20 and 17 when this realization hit me (they are now 23 and 20… time flies…)!
I made a promise to myself to stop hoarding supplies and USE all the things! I can’t remember where I heard the story, it was years ago, but they talked about their grandmother telling them to use the good china for regular everyday meals.
Stop waiting for the stars to align.
Is there an art supply that you’ve been hoarding, waiting for the perfect project or for your skills to improve before “wasting” it? The perfect time is NOW! I encourage you to use the good china. Bust it out now and have some fun!
