Holiday Tea Towels

I’ve been busy working away in my winter wonderland workshop! This year I have decided to gift tea towels using designs from my Christmas collections; Cozy Cabin Christmas and Retro Christmas Pop. I ordered linen cotton canvas fat-quarters from Spoonflower! They are the perfect size without needing to do crazy measurements.

Steps to making a tea towel:

  1. Pre-wash the fabric in cold water and iron out wrinkles.

  2. Trim off the excess border.

  3. Press a 1/4” seam all around. I folded twice to prevent fraying and trimmed corners so they weren’t so bulky.

  4. Add hanging loop. I tucked a piece of twill in the seams on one corner.

  5. Sew seams! I used a double stitch to help it hold up to many washings!

Now that it’s December, I’m enjoying the fact that people aren’t telling me to turn off Christmas music! LOL. I usually wait until Thanksgiving, but it was so late in the month and I was trying to get into the holiday spirit while sewing tea towels, that I had to turn on a little country Christmas.

Making gifts for Christmas is one of my favorite activities. Through the entire process of planning, gathering and making, I am thinking about the person who will be receiving the gift. I know it takes time and sometimes it takes more money, but I really believe that adding a special touch of handmade to the holiday makes Christmas more special.

Do you make any holiday gifts? I’d love to hear about your handmade holidays here.
