Fall in Love with Your Art Supplies

Hello. My name is Brandy and I’m addicted to art and craft supplies. I have always loved to create and I’m not super picky about the art supplies that I use (I am a little picky). When I’m in a creative rut, I like to get out various art supplies and a stack of paper and just start making marks. Sometimes I find new combinations that send me down a wonderland rabbit hole, other times I end up tearing up the “artwork” and using it later in a collage.

Nothing is wasted! When you sit down to create for the sake of play, you are opening yourself up to new ideas and allowing inspiration to enter. Not everything needs to be shared - 98% of my creative outpourings are not seen by the outside world. But the act of coming to the page and making marks generates an energy that cannot be tamed!

What’s your art supply situation?

  • My supplies are out and used often!

  • My supplies are tucked away, but easy to get to when I want them.

  • My supplies are buried. It would take me the entire day to get to them.

  • Supplies? What supplies?

  • I know where my kids keep their crayons and markers!

Wherever your supplies are right now, I think it’s time you show them some love. If you don’t have traditional art supplies, I have ways for you to get really creative… and a bit messy!

If you’re like me with a plethora of art supplies, sometimes the hardest part is to choose what you want to use! Option overload is a real thing, so I want to make it super easy for you. Take a screenshot of the options below and start playing!

If your art supplies haven’t been used in awhile and they are buried in the garage, I can hear their muffled calls…

Please release me!

Help!!

Please release me! Help!!

Don’t you think it’s time to haul out your art supplies and let your creativity out to play? Admit it, you can feel the urge rising up. If you’re honest with yourself, it won’t take THAT LONG to dig out your art supplies. You don’t even have to use them today. Simply release them from their prison! Tomorrow you can look at them. The next day you can hold them in your hands, hug them for a moment. The following day bust one marker or paint tube open and make a mark… then another mark… then another mark! Aaaaaah! That is creative play!

If you don’t have any art supplies, but you have a tingling sensation to create, I’ve got you covered!

Have you ever tried fingerpainting with condiments? That’s right, get out a plate and set up your artist palette with a squeeze of ketchup, mustard, mayo, peanut butter, jam and start fingerpainting. You can also use utensils if you don’t want to get too messy. Rake a fork through your masterpiece or scratch some polka-dots in with a chopstick. Just allow yourself to let loose for 15 minutes! And if you think I’m a total nut case for suggesting that, then take $10 and go buy yourself some art supplies. They don’t have to be fancy. The point is to make marks so your creative spirit can feel loved!

This week I encourage you to fill at least one page with random marks. It doesn’t have to be a masterpiece - please don’t make it a masterpiece! Turn on some music and dance around the page! Call to your creative spirit and let it run wild for at least 15 minutes. Please tell me if you took the time to love on your art supplies and how you feel afterwards. You can email me here.

Until next time… Have a whimsical week!
