Color Play!
This week I encourage you to get out your paints and get messy! Release your inner abstract artist and let the colors dance across the page. Intermingle with ALL the colors just to see what happens! There is no room for your inner critic here! This is all for FUN. Stay open to color surprise and delight. “Oooh, those colors look AMAZING together!”
Brush it! Spread it!
Splash it! Layer it!
Brush it! Spread it! Splash it! Layer it!
A few tips for the best outcome:
Some color mixing is great and part of our color theory from last week, but mixing all the colors will turn everything brown. If you want to avoid that, let your layers dry a bit before adding a new color. You can use a hair dryer to speed up the process.
Play with texture while you’re at it! I painted bubble wrap and pressed it on top of my wet layers. You can drag a comb through the wet paint or scratch in words and designs. The possibilities are endless!
Once it’s dry, get markers and write yourself a letter of encouragement or an inspiring quote and pin up your messy masterpiece!
When I don’t love the outcome of my piece, I will often tear it up and use my favorite colored/textured bits for a future collage.
Remember: no act of creative play is ever wasted! Whether you like the piece you created or not, you have just taken some time for yourself to get creative, to play with color, to get a little messy. Hopefully you were pushed out of your comfort zone just enough to feel energized!
Let me know if you enjoyed this exercise and if you feel inspired to do so, I’d love to see what you made! You can email me here.
